Shed on the north shore

The Shed on the North Shore is an old ferry terminal located in Auckland’s Stanley Bay next to the naval base. It’s a brilliantly teal coloured steal corrugated structure. Its image evokes a vivid memory of being there and a sense of place.

I used a process of griding up the image and recreated each section individually as its own separate artwork. The work comprises of 70 panels. Blowing up the image provides less definition and by painting ‘blind’ in terms of the larger image, I was free to introduce memory and understanding into the process of representation.
